CHIROPRACTIC CARE DURING PREGNANCY

At Knight Family Chiropractic, Our goal is to support you during this amazing transition from Pregnancy to Motherhood.

As a mother of two, Dr. Susan is personally aware of the many benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy, having received regular adjustments throughout both of her own pregnancies.

We offer a wide variety of gentle adjusting techniques to find what works best for your body. We uses the impulse adjuster or an activator for ladies who wish for no “pops” during their treatment. We also use light traction, Webster technique for releasing ligament tension, manual massage and adjusting techniques that are more traditional.

Supporting Healthy Pregnancy and Natural Birth

The following pregnancy changes can result in a misaligned spine or joints:

  • Protruding abdomen and increased back curve can occur

  • Pelvic changes due to increased hormones that promote relaxed ligaments

  • Postural adaptations – because you do everything different with a pregnant belly

If your spine becomes misaligned the following can occur:

  • You may have pain that becomes chronic and often can refer down the leg creating sciatica symptoms

  • Alignment issues can make it difficult for the baby to get into the best possible position for delivery

  • A misaligned pelvis may reduce the amount of room available for the developing baby. This restriction is called intrauterine constraint.

  • It can affect the mother’s ability to have a natural, non-invasive birth

Potential benefits of chiropractic care during and after pregnancy include:

  • Maintaining a healthier pregnancy

  • Controlling symptoms of nausea

  • Reducing the time of labor and delivery

  • Relieving back, neck or joint pain

  • Decrease symptoms of sciatica or radiating leg pain

  • Preventing a potential cesarean delivery

  • More comfort while breastfeeding, with possible greater production of milk

  • Less incidence of postpartum depression
