The Importance of Posture

Whether it’s a baby or a bag of groceries, you must pay attention to your posture when carrying anything around! Women who are pregnant, recently had a baby or who are breastfeeding have an increased hormones level in their body called Relaxin. Relaxin allows the pelvis to widen during pregnancy and it stays that way all the way up until a woman stops breastfeeding. Everyone is susceptible to the degeneration caused by poor posture but women during these mentioned phases are more at risk due to their already loosened joints. If you are using good posture it will:

  • Help keep bones and joints in correct alignment so that our muscles are used correctly, decreasing the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces that could result in degenerative arthritis and joint pain.

  • Reduce the stress on the ligaments holding the spinal joints together, minimizing the likelihood of injury.

  • Allow muscles to work more efficiently, allowing the body to use less energy and, therefore, preventing muscle fatigue.

  • Help prevent muscle strain, overuse disorders, and even back and muscular pain.
